PEARLS PROJECT
Pearls Project is a project of Our House Community. It offers support to women, focusing on those with addiction and who are involved in the sex industry. Pearls Project wants women to know that they are loved, valued, connected and that they can choose and take steps towards positive life change. Also, Pearls Projects works alongside Streetwise providing outreach harm reduction services of a night.
The support provided by Pearls Project is different with each individual woman depending on their needs, experience and what is important to them. It could consist of:
-
Practical and emotional support to connect with other services, navigate difficult situations or get to appointment.
-
Simply being there for you during phone calls, messages, and visits.
-
Providing a listening ear, someone to chat to, a shoulder to cry on or to share joy with.
-
Helping women connect with their interests, skills, and confidence.
-
Referring and signposting to other organisations who can provide the necessary support.
-
Well-being and creative activities in groups, one to one support and events.
Support for those who want to Over the years Pearls Project has done some amazing such as fitness classes, art groups, AA/ NA meeting, trips out to Wales, festivals and beaches. Also, we have had pamper nights with hairdressers, massage therapists, manicures, pedicures, and facials.

Streetwise was established in 2001 and was taken over by Our House in 2021 and helps to support some of the most vulnerable sex workers in Central and North Liverpool. Streetwise operates a mobile harm reduction unit every Friday and Saturday evenings until early hours while all other services are closed.
Streetwise goes to the red-light areas to support sex workers and reduce risks by providing contraception, referrals to specialist agencies, clothing, food, and drinks.
Streetwise has worked with over 140 sex workers working in difficult circumstances.
This service is delivered in conjunction with Pearl Project as projects of Our House Community by our volunteers. They are passionate about protecting and supporting sex workers in Liverpool coming from a professional background including nurses, doctors, emergency services, teachers, and military services.
Streetwise aims to provide a safe place for the workers to come and discuss concerns or fears. The sex workers come from a variety of different backgrounds, many will be struggling with addiction after suffering from complex family and social upbringings, we are working closely with local police and both statutory and voluntary projects Streetwise is part of a coordinated approach to offer holistic support to these vulnerable individual and reduce their risks.
We currently work closely with representatives across Liverpool such as Merseyside Police, Red Umbrella signposting on alcohol, drugs, housing, domestic violence, sexual health, working safety, hate crime and exploitation.
